词根quest/quir =ask, seek问,请求,寻找

1.seek [siːk]  vt. 寻找,寻求

Local schools are seeking to reduce the dropout rate.   当地学校在寻找办法降低辍学率。

2.search [sɜːtʃ]   v./n. 搜查，搜索

Detectives are searching the yard for clues.   侦探们在院子里寻找线索。

3.grope [grəʊp]   v./n. 摸索，寻找

She groped for her glasses on the bedside table.  她在床头柜上摸索着找眼镜。

4.chase [tʃeɪs]   v./n. 追逐，追求

The dogs saw him running and chased him.  那些狗看到他在跑就追他。

5.pursue [pə'sjuː]  v. 追赶，追捕;追求，从事，实行

She was tired of being pursued by a crowd of journalists.  她厌倦了被大群的记者追着。

6.require [rɪ'kwaɪə]  vt. 需要;要求

Bringing up children often requires you to put their needs first.  养育孩子往往需要你将他们的需求放在首位。

7.request [rɪ'kwest]  vt./n.(礼貌、正式的)要求，请求

Visitors are requested not to walk on the grass.  游客请不要走在草坪上。

8.appeal [ə'piːl]  v./n. 呼吁, 请求

The police are appealing to the public for any information about the missing girl.  警察呼吁公众提供关于失踪女孩的信息。

9.acquire [ə'kwaɪə]  vt. 获得

He has acquired a reputation for being difficult to work with.  他得了个难以共事的名声。

10.inquire [ɪn'kwaɪə]   v. 询问

I think it might be rude to inquire about her ex-husband.  我觉得打听她前夫太无礼了。
