周三清晨，朝鲜试射了一枚洲际弹道导弹(简称ICBM)。这是两个月以来社会主义国家朝鲜首次进行大型武器测试。但是，朝鲜此前进行过很多类似测试。朝鲜也因此遭受了国际制裁，而且联合国认为朝鲜开发武器项目属违法行为。

North Korea test-fired an ICBM, an intercontinentalballistic missile early Wednesday morning. It was the first time in two months that thecommunist country had tested a major weapon. But it's done this several times before. Despiteinternational sanctions and the fact that the United Nations says its weapons programs areillegal.

不过这次情况有些不同。朝鲜这次发射的洲际弹道导弹的飞行高度达到2800英里。这一高度比朝鲜此前发射的所有导弹都要高。虽然这枚导弹最终落入了日本附近海域，但是朝鲜称这枚导弹的射程可覆盖整个美国。

Something was different this time around, though. The ICBM reached an altitude as high as2,800 miles. That's higher than any other weapon North Korea has ever launched. And thoughit's splashed on off the Japanese coast, North Korea said it was capable of hitting the entireU.S. mainland.

一些科学家表示赞同，不过一名分析人士表示，由于携带着重型核弹头，这枚导弹的射程可能不会达到那么远的距离。

Some scientists agree, but one analyst said it probably wouldn't have gone as far with theheavy nuclear warhead on it.

North Korea said the missile did have a, quote, super large heavy warhead attached. Eitherway, the U.S. is pushing China to do everything it can to convince North Korea to end itsnuclear and missile programs. American officials say these programs endanger world peace,peace in the region and the U.S., and that America has a long list of additional economicsanctions it can place on North Korea.

亚洲国家朝鲜将其拥有的武器视为威慑和力量，以阻止其他国家的袭击，朝鲜表示，世界上没有任何力量能阻止朝鲜的前进。

The Asian country sees its weapons as a deterrent, a strength that would discourage othercountries from attacking and it says that no force on earth can stop North Korea's advance.
