Luxury(奢侈品) fashion brand(时尚品牌) Balenciaga(巴黎世家) has apologised after claims(传闻) that Chinese shoppers were mistreated(被歧视) at a Parisian outlet(店) sparked a backlash(引发抨击).

Balenciaga and upmarket(高端的/高档的/高级的) retailer(零售商) Printemps(法国巴黎春天百货集团) apologised on Chinese social media(在中国的社交媒体上道歉), where news of the incident(事件) has attracted over two million comments.

A video posted online appeared to show a Chinese customer assaulted(被羞辱) at the Balenciaga shop inside Printemps.

Its caption(标题) read: "Boycott(抵制) Balenciaga [for] discriminating against(歧视) Chinese."

Balenciaga(巴黎世家), known for its luxury shoes and handbags, is part of Kering(开云集团), which also owns Gucci(古驰) and Yves Saint Laurent(圣罗兰).

Citing the video, China's state-run Global Times claimed the incident had begun after the man's mother scolded(斥责) queue jumpers(插队者) while she was waiting to enter the Balenciaga outlet.

It is common to see long lines of customers from China and other countries outside Parisian(巴黎的) boutiques(精品店).

One of the queue-jumpers then pushed the woman and threatened to punch(打) her, prompting(使得) her son to intervene(干预/介入), it was alleged.

The son was wrestled to the ground(被摔倒在地) by the group, the Global Times reported, adding that a sales clerk(销售店员) then allegedly(据称) insulted(羞辱) the Chinese customers and told them to leave.

The hashtag #BoycottBalenciagaDiscriminatesAgainstChinese has been viewed at least 29 million times on Chinese social media platform Weibo, China's equivalent of Twitter(微博,类似于Twitter的中文社交媒体).

"Balenciaga shoes are beautiful, but such an episode(事件) is an eye-opener(奇葩)," said one Weibo user. Another wrote: "You can say goodbye to the Chinese market."

In a statement in Mandarin posted on Weibo, Balenciaga said it regretted the incident(对该事件表示感到遗憾) and noted that(指出) security guards(保安) had acted quickly to restore calm(当即介入以恢复秩序).

"Balenciaga sincerely apologises to(真诚地向......道歉) the customers who were present and reaffirms(确保) its strong commitment to respect equally all its customers," it said.

Printemps(巴黎春天百货) said that staff would receive additional training(接受再培训) to ensure they manage such situations in the best possible way.

"We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to(真诚地向......道歉) the Chinese customers involved in this altercation(争论) as well as to all those who were upset or inconvenienced(感到不便) in any way," the department store(百货公司) said.

Paris is a favourite European destination(目的地) of Chinese travellers, who are a crucial market for luxury brands.

Just this week(而就本周), Kering reported a 27% jump in sales(开云集团的销售业绩增长了27%), partly as a result of(部分原因是因为) a recovery in spending(消费的回暖/回升) by wealthy Chinese shoppers(有钱的中国买家).
