城市中的老建筑物是否应该拆除？很多同学可能想不到，老建筑其实有很多应该拆除的理由，比如老建筑没有什么实用价值却占据了大量的城市空间，老建筑影响了城市的面貌，老建筑还可能带来安全问题等。但是，很多老建筑有丰富的历史文化价值，是城市或国家文化的一部分，因此，应该保留供游人参观。

这样，对于老建筑，我们可能就有两种情况，一种是没有什么文化价值的建筑，应该拆除，同时我们应该保护那些具有文化价值的老建筑。

Some People believe that old buildings should be removed to give more spaces for new houses. For me, to pull down old buildings is definitely not good for the growth of cities.

Some old buildings serve as important witnesses of local history and culture so that they bear great values both in terms of research and education. For example, even though the Forbidden City occupies a large area of Beijing, it is carefully preserved as the symbol of feudal dynasties in ancient China. Removing the precious old buildings is considered to be unwise for the development of a modern civilized city. Some European cities such as Roman and Venice attach such great importance to preserving old buildings and roads that some of them still remain as landmarks of those cities.

At the same time, old buildings can also attract tourists when properly restored. Take the former residence of Luxun,the most renowned writer in recent China, in Shaoxing as an example,tourism accounts for a large proportion of the income of the local governmentsince there are thousands of tourists visiting Shaoxing every day, thus providing numerous jobs and bringing considerable profits. Therefore, these old buildings are worth restoring and rebuilding instead of being destroyed.

From the above discussion, we may safely draw the conclusion that although some old buildings are supposed to be knocked down for a new and tidy look of the city, it is necessary to protect those with historical and cultural value because they can remind us of the city’s history and can generate profits by way of tourism.
